Structural Insulated Logs (SILs)
Casselman River Log Homes is proud to introduce the first Structural Insulated Log (SIL) to be offered in the log home industry.

The log was designed, tested, and certified at out Somerset, Pennsylvania factory. This patent-pending design is trade-marked as "The SmartLog". Like Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) the SmartLog is manufactured and then bonded together using staples and petroleum-free polyurethane adhesive. This state of the art design creates a log that is structurally stronger than a traditional log.

The process is finished by injecting the log with a petroleum free,  soy bean based * that will provide the log with an incredible insulation factor:

  • 4R per inch, e.g. a 10 inch log has an insulation factor of R40
  • more than  3 times the R value of a conventional Log!

Environmentally Friendly Home

This has enabled Casselman River Log Homes to attach the Energy Star label to the product. When building with the SmartLog the entire construction process is simplified. For instance, You don't have to use adjustable fasteners or plan for shrinkage around windows and doors because the SmartLog has no cracking, warping or shrinkage.

Most importantly, the SmartLog is a Green Product. The log uses fifty percent less wood because it contains a foam core. This core is recyclable and made of a soybean derivative that is perfectly environmentally friendly - both in it production and ultimate disposal. What’s more, the foam has absolutely no nutritional value for insects or rodents, and has excellent fire–retardant properties, allowing for easier and less frequent care for the Log Home.

Although the SmartLog is designed using today's advanced technology, it still has the look and feel of the log homes of our past. The Structural Insulated Log can be manufactured using many different profile: for instance, from the Swedish Cope to Square Logs, or to our flagship 10 or 12 inch “D” Logs round in the outside and flat in the inside for easier furnishing of the Log Home.

Finally, the SILs allow for the use of Casselman River Log Homes’ smart cabling feature, by which the electrical cabling is embedded in the Logs. This is made possible with the use of Conduits that are placed inside the SIL before the soy bean foam is injected.

The SmartLog is a true leap forward in log home construction. Building using Structural Insulated Logs and Structural Insulated Panels will be the construction industry's standard of quality and efficiency for years to come.
